|Steve Butcher is a world-class coach and trainer, and while he is famous for his contributions to gymnastics, the breadth of his athletic experience goes far beyond this one sport. Several of his cross training athletes are Olympic medalists and among the best in the world at their sport.|
|He was a USA Men’s Junior National Team Coach from 1991-2004 and is a member of the USA Gymnastics Executive Committee & Board of Directors. He spends part of his time working as a cross training coach for USA Track & Field pole vaulters, USA Skiing down-hillers, and the USA Skiing aerial team – several of his cross training athletes are Olympic medalists and among the best in the world at their sport.|
Additionally, Butcher serves on the Men’s Program Committee, Junior Olympic Program Committee, and Age Group Competition Committee. Butcher is a brevet (international) men’s judge and the president of the men’s technical committee for the Pan American Gymnastics Union. Butcher was also the junior coach for 1996 Olympian John Macready, and over the years, has come to judge competitions in almost every continent in the world.
Butcher was a guest television news commentator for NBC in San Diego during the 1996, 2000, and 2004 Olympic Games. He has assisted many of his former gymnasts to earn positions on present men’s collegiate teams such as Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Cal-Berkeley, Air Force Academy, and Arizona State. He is currently the Gymnastics Program Director for the Mission Valley/Toby Wells YMCA in San Diego.
