Tony Gehman

Tony has been recognized as a leading coach and clinician for over 20 years. He has placed numerous gymnasts into the elite level and onto the National Team since 1983. For a decade Tony was the president of the United States Elite Coaches Association (1991-2001). Tony has escorted his gymnasts to Russia, France, Korea England, Columbia, Cuba and Bulgaria, and is best known for his work with USA Gymnastics, writing the Safety Guide for the Yurchenko vault, and the USGF Conditioning Packet.
Along with his wife Paula, they have owned and operated North Stars Gymnastics Academy, located in Boonton, New Jersey since 1985. Tony first began coaching in 1979, and has coached all levels of gymnasts including numerous elite gymnasts, with many making National Team. Over 40 North Star gymnasts have earned college scholarships. In the early 1990’s Gehman developed and wrote the “Round Off Entry Training Guide” for the Yurchenko vault, as well as the “USGF Conditioning Packet,” both of which became the standard for USA gymnastics.
He has coached gymnasts in international competitions in England, Russia, France Korea, Bulgaria, Cuba, Mexico and Canada. He was the 1989 & 1991 Pan America Games Coach, and coached the Goodwill Games Medalist in vault.At the age of 12 Tony began his career path, first as a gymnast, in Lancaster PA, and then competing all-around for East Stroudsburg State University where he was the North Atlantic Ring Champion and Team Captain for 2 years. Since 1979 Gehman’s accomplishments include: being a Member of the USA Gymnastics Coaching Staff, a Member USA Gymnastics Board of Directors, a National Lecturer, and the President of the United States Elite Coaches Association (USECA) from 1991-2001, and is Safety and CPR Certified.In 1991 he was honored with the USA Coach of the Year for USA Gymnastics & by USECA
